The Union-Tribune’s Nick Canepa grades the Chargers following Sunday’s 27-24 loss to the Titans in Nashville Quarterbacks: F+ Sacked on the third play of the game, Justin Herbert’s response was OK. But the offense stunk on third down and whatever was being called in OT would have won Major Bowes Amateur Hour.
He did some brilliant things, but they don’t mean wins. Since the merger, around 10 percent of the teams that started 0-2 have made the playoffs. This won’t add to the 10 percent. No excuse for this offense to score but two TDs. None. And Tennessee stinks.
Running backs: B Josh Kelley is a good backup. But he’s a backup for a reason — he’s not Austin Ekeler, who was in the nurse’s office, inactive with an ankle. Austin was missed. Advertisement Receivers: A
Keenan Allen and Mike Williams had superb days. Freshman Derius Davis is dangerous wherever he’s placed, and will cause migraines. TEs Stone Smarrt and Gerald Everett had big moments. Offensive line: D Not nearly as good as last week. The line allowed a sack at the end that turned a possible TD into a tying field goal, forcing OT. RT Trey “Turnstile” Pipkins III was spun around like a ballroom dancer allowing the first sack, but won the trophy when he caught a 2-point conversion throw.
