A loving father of two who was expecting a third child has been identified as the man found dead near his home in mysterious circumstances.

Paul Grapsas, 40, left his home on Western Beach Road, near central Geelong in Victoria, to walk his dog at around 11pm on Thursday.

His pregnant wife Jessica woke up around 4 a.m. to find the dog had returned but her husband had not.

After a brief search outside, she found his body next to his car on nearby Malone Street, suffering fatal head injuries.

Police remain puzzled by the mysterious death and are looking for witnesses who might come forward.

In a statement released on Sunday, the family remembered Mr Grapsas “as a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend”.

A heartbreaking post on Ms Grapsas’ Facebook page shows the family’s Father’s Day celebration, with the couple eating outside with their two little girls.

“We love everything you are and everything you will be.” It was a beautiful day celebrating you in the sunshine!’ Ms. Grapsas writes about the happy occasion.

Sunday’s statement said Mr. Grapsas was “happiest when surrounded by his family, friends and church community.”

It is said that the devoted father has just received a promotion.

He was described as “well-known and respected in the community, an experienced athlete who loved golf, fishing and video games.”

“Paul will be sadly and deeply missed by all those he loved and those who loved him,” the statement ends.

Homicide detectives are asking anyone who saw the man walking his dog or heard anything suspicious between 11 p.m. Thursday and 4 a.m. Friday to contact them.

They also want people with CCTV or dashcam footage to provide it to police.
