The Princes Highway at Werribee has been closed, causing massive traffic delays heading into Melbourne, after a truck crashed into an overpass
Commuters are being warned to look for alternative routes after a major highway was closed following a truck accident.
The Melbourne-bound lanes of the Princes Freeway were closed at Werribee between Princes Hwy and Duncans Rd on Friday morning, causing significant delays.
At the Werribee exit, all lanes towards the city have now reopened and debris has been cleared.
However, further delays are expected on the Princes Freeway following a vehicle collision near the Wyndham on-ramp.
The two left inbound lanes are closed between Forsyth Road and the Point Cook Road exit.
Motorists are advised to follow the instructions of emergency services and emergency personnel on site as two lanes remain operational.
Around 10:30 a.m. Friday, a truck crashed into the Farm Road overpass, spilling a “significant amount of debris” across the road.
Travelers between Geelong and Melbourne have been told to take a detour via Geelong-Bacchus Marsh Rd and the Western Highway.
Motorists stuck in traffic reported waits of up to two hours, with many being diverted off the motorway at the Werribee exit.
The driveway was closed.
“(Crane) struck the bridge and ripped the crane off the trailer, causing the trailer to rip off the truck,” driver Mick Cummins said on social media.

One driver told 3AW she was stuck in traffic for three hours trying to get to Melbourne for today’s AFL semi-final between Melbourne and Carlton.
“I really feel bad for everyone who has to go to the airport from Geelong this evening,” a truck driver said after leaving Torquay at 10.20am and not reaching St Kilda Road until around 2pm.
Paramedics treated the truck driver, a 50-year-old man from Wyndham Vale, at the scene.
No serious injuries were reported.
