It’s normal to struggle with cultural differences when going abroad for a few days – but one American was unimpressed by the British after a permanent move to London.
TikToker @kjordyyywho describes himself as a “simple idiot among the Brits”, told his 121,000 fans his “fucks about the Brits”.
He began the video with: “I noticed that most Brits don’t say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’.”
His other criticisms included the British sense of humor and poor customer service.
The video, which has now received 56,000 views, divided viewers. Many said the American expat was “just in London” and invited the TikToker to “come to Yorkshire” to observe the difference.
TikToker @kjordyyy, who describes himself as a “simple idiot among the Brits,” told his 121,000 fans to “suck the Brits” in a recent video.
One commented: “Where I live.” [not London]“People always say “please” and “thank you.”
Aware of risking insult, he said: “I’m not saying all of them, but I’m just speaking from experience.”
Citing a scenario of holding the door, he claimed Brits “wouldn’t even say thank you” for the gesture and would “look at me like it was my job”.
We’re a nation known for our dry sense of humor – but that was another criticism of the TikTok personality – whose video garnered almost 3,000 reactions.
He remarked: “I’m sorry, but sir, I just don’t understand British humor.” Maybe it’s just me, but someone will say something very sarcastic and people will erupt.
“And in my head I’m thinking, bro, how is this funny? On the other hand, many of my British friends tell me that American humor is too obvious.
“But isn’t that the point of a joke?”
Another point of contention is customer service in the UK.
The content creator noted, “The customer service here is terrible, but I just feel like they have no motivation to provide great service since they don’t get tips.”
“It happens so many times that I go to a place and they ask, ‘What do you want?’ Exactly like that. And that’s just the norm.”
But he didn’t stop there. He was fed up with the incessant political teasing from the British and many asked him: ‘What do you think about Trump? Or about Joe Biden?’
Many commented that the American expat had “just been in London” and invited the TikToker to “come to Yorkshire” to observe the difference. Another echoed the sentiment seen above: “Where I live.” [not London]“People always say “please” and “thank you”
The TikToker was not happy about this and said that his fellow Americans would find this curiosity a clear invasion of privacy.
He said, “I’m just like bro Back at home “Some people will be shitty if you ask who you voted for.”
This came after another US TikToker posted about her concerns as an American expat living in the UK.
Andrea Celeste from LA shared a video with her 186,000 followers as part of her series “Things that are socially acceptable in England that would confuse Americans.”
Speaking directly into the camera, Andrea said: “You probably won’t see many people drinking a plain glass of milk in England.” [but] In America, people do this all the time with almost every meal, not just cookies.”
