Pennsylvania authorities have intensified the search for a Brazilian fugitive by drowning his mother’s voice over police loudspeakers and a helicopter.
Danelo Cavalcante escaped from a maximum-security prison in Chester County on Thursday morning.
The 34-year-old was sentenced to life in prison two weeks ago for the April 2021 murder of his ex-girlfriend Débora Brandao, 34, a mother of two.
State police handling the investigation have deployed squad cars and helicopters delivering a recorded message from Cavalcante’s mother.

The message, in Portuguese, urges him to turn himself in to the police without threats of violence.
Pennsylvania State Police Assistant Commissioner George Bivens said Monday that if Cavalcante “does not actively surrender, lethal force is permissible.”
Authorities received reports of four credible sightings but were unable to locate the convicted killer.
A surveillance camera in a residential area showed Cavalcante walking through a wooded area around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
At the time, he was wearing pants, a light-colored T-shirt and white sneakers, police said.

Authorities have yet to say how Cavalcante escaped from prison, where he was being held pending transfer to a state prison.
Cavalcante is also wanted for a 2021 murder in Brazil. Prosecutors say he stabbed Brandao in front of their two children to prevent them from reporting him to US authorities.
He was arrested in Virginia after killing Brandao. Authorities believe he tried to flee to Mexico to return to Brazil.
Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan said last week that Cavalcante may want to travel south again.
