Clark died the same day as NFL legend Jim Brown, her “Slaughter” co-star. Her cause of death wasn’t immediately available. “RIP beautiful actress Marlene Clark. . . It was a delight to work with you…,” Demond Wilson, who portrayed Lamont Sanford, tweeted Tuesday . Wilson listed her birthdate as Dec. 19, 1949.
The Hollywood Reporter reported she was born in Harlem on Dec. 19, 1937.
Clark worked as a model before getting into acting. Her first major movie was 1968’s “For Love of Ivy” alongside Sidney Poitier . She went on to appear in 1969’s “Putney Swope,” directed by Robert Downey Sr.; “The Landlord” in 1970; as well as “Slaughter” and “Night of the Cobra Woman” in 1972.
Other notable works include “Enter the Dragon” (1973), “The Beast Must Die” (1974), and “Switchblade Sisters” (1975). The Hollywood Reporter noted she left acting in the late 1980s, becoming the manager of a restaurant in Venice Beach, California. She had also opened her own clothing store. headtopics.com
