Angel Mercado-Ocasio, a 19-year-old college baseball player, has died in Pennsylvania after a makeshift shelter collapsed over him.
Mercado-Ocasio and his teammates from Central Penn College – near Harrisburg – had built a wooden shelter in a public field in Cumberland County.
But local authorities told the team they didn’t have planning permission and called for the building to be demolished.
As they demolished the wooden shelter on Monday, he collapsed on the roof of the Mercado-Ocasio and sustained a traumatic head injury.
He remained hospitalized and died of his injuries days later.
