A skinny, balding, and strange creature had been wandering around a California orchard for months, terrifying locals who called it the werewolf. However, a local dog rescuer, Megan Bowe, was not afraid and rushed to the scene to help. Bowe identified the creature as a very sick German Shepherd and named him King.

The poor pup was suffering from scabies, a broken pelvis, and a severely broken tail. He was so weak that he could barely stand up, but Bowe knew she had to save him. King was only one year old, but he looked very old due to his injuries.
Bowe rushed King to an emergency vet, where he received a laundry list of treatments to help him recover. The veterinarian believed King had been hit by a car months earlier, leaving him with a broken pelvis and a severely damaged tail that had begun to heal incorrectly. With such injuries, King could not get around to look for food, making him severely skinny and dehydrated.

Due to King’s scabies, Bowe had to set up a quarantine area in her garage to ensure he did not pass on the disease to other animals. She also started him on small feedings to build his weight and strength back up to prepare him for surgery on his hip and tail.
King’s road to recovery was not easy, but he was grateful for the help. After a month and a half of around-the-clock care, feedings, and medicine, King’s scabies began to improve, and he was regaining strength. Recently, he had surgery on his hip and tail and is now going on daily walks to strengthen his leg, as per vet orders.

Although King is not fully recovered, Bowe believes he will be ready for adoption in a few months. Until then, King is enjoying the new joys of life, such as eating treats, taking walks, and going for car rides with the windows open.

Despite King’s happy ending, Bowe cannot believe that all those cars passed him by and never stopped to help. However, it only took one person to make a difference, and now King is happier than ever.
