Grizzlies’ Dillon Brooks is fined $35,000 for ‘unsportsmanlike conduct’ after colliding with a cameraman and shoving him in court… but fans are divided on the penalty
Dillon Brooks was fined $35,000 for shoving a cameraman on the sidelines after chasing a loose ball in Miami on Wednesday, but fans are divided over whether the Memphis Grizzlies swingman died really deserved punishment or not.
The incident happened at 2:40 in the second quarter of the Grizzlies’ 138-119 loss to the Heat.
Memphis’ John Konchar saved the ball from going wide at the baseline and just threw it across the pitch across from the scorer’s table.
Brooks, always known for his rush, rushed over the ball himself only to be ruled out by an official.
Brooks’ momentum carried him over the sidelines, where he collided with the cameraman and appeared to knock the man to the ground with his left arm.

NBA executive vice president and head of basketball operations Joe Dumars felt the incident deserved a $35,000 fine, but not everyone was convinced.
“Dude was trying to get back in the game, calm down kids!” wrote a fan on Twitter. “We don’t have to turn this guy down just because he’s trying to compete at a high level.”
Others disagreed.
“Your play was far over,” another fan wrote in response. “Didn’t apologize, help him or do anything. Plus, he literally repelled the guy. That was on purpose. I’m honestly surprised it’s just a fine and not a suspension.
Brooks is just coming off a suspension he received for picking up his 16th technical foul of the season during a March 3 loss to the Denver Nuggets.
The Grizzlies are currently without star point guard Ja Morant, who is currently suspended for league-damaging behavior after he was seen pointing a gun at a strip club in video that went viral on social media.
Although not nearly as serious, Brooks’ run-in with the cameraman was reminiscent of an incident in 1997 when controversial Chicago Bulls forward Dennis Rodman kicked a cameraman in Minnesota.
The Worm was struggling with the Timberwolves’ Kevin Garnett for a rebound when he fell over some photographers along the baseline. On the way back to his feet, Rodman caught a cameraman’s eye and kicked him in the groin, earning the NBA an 11-game suspension.
Rodman also paid the cameraman $200,000.
