Jim Boeheim out as Syracuse men’s basketball coach after 47 years

Jim Boeheim’s career as Syracuse men’s basketball coach ends after 47 seasons, following an unusual series of events that raise questions about how willingly he’s departing. The longest-tenured coach in Division I, Boeheim won over 1,100 games since 1976.

Jim Boeheim, who won more than 1,100 games at Syracuse, held the job since 1976 and was the longest-tenured coach in Division I.

Autry, 51, played point guard for Boeheim from 1990 to 1994 and began his coaching career in 2006 at Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, Va. He went on to a brief stint at Paul VI High School in Chantilly, Va., and coached AAU teams in the region before getting a position with Virginia Tech’s program in 2008. He was hired by Boeheim as an assistant
