‘It’s a joke!’: Jude Bellingham lashes out at officials for giving Kai Havertz a chance to repeat his penalty after an assault… with the Chelsea star scoring on the second try, Borussia Dortmund from the Champions League throw
Jude Bellingham has slammed the decision to allow Chelsea to retake the second-half penalty after the Blues knocked his Borussia Dortmund side out of the Champions League on Tuesday.
The controversial moment came early in the second half after Raheem Sterling leveled Chelsea with a well-taken finish just before the break.
Marius Wolf was then credited with working Ben Chilwell’s cross after referee Danny Makkelie was sent to the pitchside monitor. Kai Havertz stepped forward but saw his free kick hit the post and stayed outside.
However, he was given a second chance to score after replays showed assaults by Dortmund players and he didn’t miss a second time. The penalty proved to be the goal that decided the tie, but Bellingham questioned whether it should have been awarded at all.
“I haven’t seen the incident yet. From my position it looked like it was pretty tight and I’m not sure what else he can do with his hands,” Bellingham told BT Sport.
“I don’t want to get in trouble… I paid them enough…” 👀

Kai Havertz was allowed to repeat his penalty after Dortmund attacked
Jude Bellingham felt the penalty shouldn’t have been awarded in the first place
He was very frustrated with referee Danny Makkelie allowing the penalty to be retaken
He was then shown the incident and remained unconvinced.
‘A meter or two away, I’m not sure. I don’t want to get in trouble, I paid them enough,” he added, appearing to refer to previous fines he’d paid for challenging referee decisions.
However, the 19-year-old couldn’t hide his anger when discussing the retake of the penalty.
“I think that in itself was disappointing, and then the fact that they had a replay, I think it’s a joke,” he said.
“For every penalty, especially if it’s so slow, people will enter the penalty area by a meter or so. But that’s the game I suppose, he made the decision and we had to live with that.
Following their European eliminations, Bellingham and Dortmund will now turn their attention to the Bundesliga title race and seek to end Bayern Munich’s dominance in Germany.
Dortmund have won all league games since the winter break and are level on points with Bayern with eleven games left.
