Australian software giant Atlassian is set to cut 500 jobs just months after co-CEO Scott Farquhar toured the country as part of a massive recruitment drive.

It was announced that 500 full-time employees — or 5 percent of Atlassian’s workforce — will be laid off amid an economic downtown badly hit by technology companies.

Billionaire co-founders Mike Cannon-Brookes and Scott Farquhar sent an internal note to staff to break down the company’s “difficult decision” to lay off workers.

“We made the difficult decision to realign our team to better position Atlassian over the long term,” the couple wrote.

“We made this decision as a leadership team and with our board, but ultimately the final decision rests with us as co-founders. To those who are leaving us: we are deeply sorry.’

There’s more to come.
