Passport Wait Times Are Up Amid Soaring Demand For International Trips
Right now, the average turnaround time for a standard passport renewal is eight to 11 weeks due to a boom in demand from Americans eager to travel overseas.
gettyProcrastinators, beware. If you’re planning an international trip this spring or summer, it’s time to get your passport sorted out. As of now, the turnaround time for a standard passport renewal currently can take eight to 11 weeks, according to the
State Department website. For $60 more, an expedited renewal application can take five to seven weeks.That’s a lot faster than during the first summer of the pandemic, when many travelers were waiting up to 18 weeks. But the process takes longer now than it did before the arrival of Covid-19. In 2019, passport renewals took six to eight weeks for standard service and expedited service often delivered the little blue book in as little as two weeks.
