Oxford United are expected to approach Charlton Athletic for manager Dean Holden.
The 43-year-old has a contract until the end of the season and Charlton has tried to offer new terms and extend his contract after an encouraging start to his tenure at The Valley.
However, ongoing suspicions about Charlton’s ownership have stalled negotiations while the club’s future is ratified.
Charlton owner Thomas Sandgaard spoke openly last week about giving Holden a new deal. However, Sandgaard also has to deal with a potential legal threat from former Sunderland owner Charlie Methven as he pushes to get his consortium’s takeover bid back on track.
Meanwhile, the ambitious Oxford has identified Holden as a leading candidate for his managerial post after parting ways with Karl Robinson last week.
Holden is credited as a young, smart-thinking coach who kept Charlton’s dressing room busy during difficult times off the pitch.

He has recently been linked with Championship jobs despite only having been at Charlton since December and Oxford are now considering a move of their own.
The League One club sit 17th in the table and are keen to stem their relegation with big ambitions to take the club to the next level. They want a manager who can fulfill their ambitions.
This was underscored by their plans to move to a new 18,000-capacity stadium while talks are ongoing. They can hardly afford to enter the second division.
