Nick Pope conceded for the first time since November when West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta broke Newcastle’s impressive Premier League defensive record in a 1-1 draw at St James’ Park.
The Magpies goalkeeper was aiming for a Premier League record by becoming the first English stopper to keep seven straight clean sheets and everything seemed to be going according to plan when Callum Wilson scored the third-minute goal for the men of Eddie Howe opened.
Just after the half-hour, however, a Hammers corner was swung in from the left and Paqueta was there to slide the ball past Pope and equalize from David Moyes’s side equaliser.
It was the first league goal the England goalkeeper had conceded since Romain Perraud’s comfort in Newcastle’s 4-1 win over Southampton in early November.
A run that saw the 30-year-old keep an opponent’s goal away from nine and a half hours of Premier League football.

The English goalkeeper was unable to prevent Lucas Paqueta’s equalizer at 1-1
During that run, Pope kept clean sheets against Chelsea, Leicester, Leeds, Arsenal, Fulham and Crystal Palace.
Although a seventh clean sheet would have broken the record for an England goalkeeper, Pope would still have a long way to go to beat Edwin van der Sar’s all-time Premier League record.
The Dutch goalkeeper kept 14 consecutive clean sheets in the 2008/09 season as Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester Untied won the Premier League title.
Pope has been one of Newcastle’s most impressive signings since joining from Burnley in the summer and one of the league’s most formidable stoppers.

This week he was awarded the Rave of the Month gong for his incredible performance by Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta last month.
The 1-1 draw means Newcastle remain fourth in the Premier League, four points clear of nearest challengers Spurs.
West Ham, meanwhile, continue their recent turnaround but remain just a point above the relegation zone after impressive victories from Everton and Wolves on Saturday.
