What is a League of Legends ASU?

There are numerous types of champion updates in League of Legends. These updates affect a character’s gameplay or focus on their visuals and visuals.

Visual and Gameplay Updates (VGU) modernize a champion’s artwork and animations while updating their abilities. An example of an upcoming VGU is Skarner, who won a vote to purchase the update over other characters. Meanwhile, Comprehensive Gameplay Updates (CGU) are used to completely overhaul abilities for underperforming champions. Aurelion Sol has been one of the least played characters over the years, so Riot Games decided to give him a CGU.

There’s another update called the Art and Sustainability Update (ASU), but what does that include?

A League of Legends ASU was developed by Riot to simplify the skin development process for specific champions. ASUs are typically used for characters that were released a long time ago and need assistance in meeting updated artwork standards.

Caitlyn received an ASU in late 2021 that improved the quality of all of her skins and gave her skins new splash artwork. Riot announced an Ahri ASU in 2022, which will finally be released in a couple of patches. This makes one of the most popular League of Legends characters much more visually appealing than before.
