However, the ties between the two parties seem to have fizzled out and the indication is a social media post by Shiv Sena’s firebrand leader and MP Sanjay Raut.
Team Uddhav praises Rahul Gandhi amid Savarkar row
During the Maharashtra leg of his Yatra last week, Rahul Gandhi criticised BJP and RSS for idolising Savarkar. Savarkar is also worshipped by Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiva Sena. While BJP left no chance to berate Uddhav, the Thackeray faction also suggested such remarks can end the MVA alliance.
Raut has said that Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra has drawn a huge response in Maharashtra and therefore at this juncture, there was no need for him to raise the Savarkar issue and create a controversy.
Raut’s comment reportedly created a panic in Congress following which the party went into damage control mode. Congress leader and spokesperson Jairam Ramesh called Sena MP Sanjay Raut to clear the air and was assured that all is well in MVA.
Amid the row, Raut appreciated Rahul and praised the latter for enquiring about his health, calling it a ‘rare gesture’.
Meanwhile, the tweet by Raut also suggests that Uddhav still needs Congress to take on Shinde-BJP might.
It may also be noted that the civic polls in Mumbai are crucial for Uddhav Thackeray to regard the lost political space. And, the Uddhav-led Shiv Sena will need the Congress at this juncture.
