New Delhi: Delhi Police sources said on Tuesday that Aftab Poonawala allegedly threw the saw and blade in the bushes in Gurugram. The saw and blade were reportedly used by Aftab to chop Shraddha’s body into 35 pieces, police sources informed.
A meat cleaver was also used in the gruesome murder and the sharp-edged weapon was allegedly thrown away by Aftab in a garbage dump in Delhi’s Mehrauli area, sources said.
A Delhi police team thoroughly searched bushes near Gurugram’s DLF Phase 3 twice and collected some pieces of evidence, which have been sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) for further probe.
Earlier, when police went to Aftab’s Chhattarpur apartment, they had recovered heavy and sharp cutting tools. Cops suspect that these weapons were used to chop Shraddha’s body parts.
Police have so far recovered 13 bones, the base of a skull, and a decapitated jaw, which have been sent for forensic analysis. The DNA samples of the remains will be used to match with Shraddha’s father’s DNA samples.
Aftab was presented before Saket court through video conferencing and his custody has been extended for four more days. Aftab confessed before the court, “What happened that happened in heat of the moment.”
