Qatar banned beer sales at FIFA World Cup stadiums on Friday in an 11th-hour about-turn on the alcohol policy. The suddenly-imposed restriction has left more than just Budweiser – the official sponsor of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 – playing hard-ball.Two England fans visiting Qatar for the 2022 World Cup have gone viral after they claimed that their hunt for beer led them straight to a Sheikh’s palace.

A plot for the movies

John, one of the English fans, revealed that he was searching for drinks with his mates on Sunday night when they got more than they had bargained for.

“Last night, we met one of the Sheikh’s sons and he took us back to the palace and he showed us, he had lions and everything,” he told British sports radio talkSPORT.

“They’ve made us so welcome and look around you, it doesn’t get any better than this.”

Fellow England and Everton supporter, Alex Sulivian said: “We were on a hunt for some beers and they said ‘We’ll sort beers’, so we jumped into the back of his Land Cruiser, ended up in a big palace.

“We were in the back and he showed us monkeys, his exotic birds, it was nuts,” he recalled further.

Better still, what sounds like a potential plot for a wild fourth instalment of The Hangover film series, has a Snapchat video to back up its authenticity.

Footage from the tourist’s visit to the “palace” later emerged on Twitter, showing a luxurious estate.

“Just gone on a beer mission and I’ve managed to get us back to a naughty one with Nawaf and Abdul Aziz and we’ve just rocked up,” Alex can be heard saying in the video.
